In addition to advising on conventional banking and finance transactions, MAQ Legal boasts a stand-alone Islamic Finance Team which comprises lawyers who have advised on numerous Islamic project finance transactions in an array of sectors. In addition, MAQ Legal’s lawyers have worked on development of standard Islamic finance product documentation for most of the Islamic banks and windows in the Sultanate of Oman.

MAQ Legal’s Capital Markets Team consists of award-winning lawyers who have advised on well over 90 per cent. of the debt capital market transactions that have been undertaken in the Sultanate of Oman. The lawyers have advised on a vast array of Capital Market transactions which include bonds and sukuk issued pursuant to local regulations as well as those issued offshore pursuant to Regulation S and Rule 144-A of the US Securities Law and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITS). In addition to advising clients on their Capital Market transactions, the team has also assisted Omani regulators on the drafting of laws applicable to the Capital Markets sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The team advises clients on acquisition of oil, gas and mining interests in the Sultanate of Oman and negotiating their concession agreements, operating agreements, farm-in agreements and off-takes.

MAQ Legal’s litigation and disputes resolution team comprises lawyers who have assisted clients on commercial, civil, criminal, employment, Shariah, debt recovery and administrative law matters. Our team handles matters for clients before the Primary Commercial Courts, Appeals Court and the Supreme Court of Oman. In addition to our litigation expertise, our arbitration practice consists of lawyers with experience of both local and international arbitrations. Our lawyers have represented clients in arbitration subject to the Omani Arbitration Law, LCIA Arbitration Rules, DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Rules and the UNCITRAL Rules.
